Nick

Most of the guys on campus end up spending a lot of time with Nick. Nick is a clinician at San Pasqual Academy. He is Buddhist he works with boys eight, he also runs a group called G’s to Gents. Nick spends time helping adolescents like me work through personal problems.

Last fall, I attended a fair for special needs children in Balboa Park. Nick and a couple of other people including myself were at this fair because we were volunteering for a group call “Big Animals for Little Kids.” When we first arrived, I look at it and it looked small and not many people knew about it. i thought it was going to be a waste, but it was not. the first thing we did was go to the back and got dressed into the mascots cartoon character. I dressed up as Tigger and my guide was Nick so i did not run into anyone when I was walking around. As we walked around, we laughed and had a good time. At the end of the day, I felt happy because I made little kids happy.

On a hot day last fall, Nick invited me to go surfing with a group of people at La Jolla Cove. From the beach we could see the cliffs and smell the saltwater. We went there to go surfing, but I had another idea. I borrowed a board from the surf instructor to teach Nick how to skim board. We walked away from the group of kids who were surfing, playing volleyball, and playing softball. First, I showed him how to stand on the board in the very shallow water. When it was his turn, he tossed the board into the water and jumped on it. But, he fell backwards on his butt! I thought it was hilarious, but I did not laugh because I didn’t want to be rude. Nick got up, grabbed the board, and tried again. This time, he didn’t fall, but he lost the board from under his feet. Even though I did not realize it at the time, Nick was teaching me how to be myself and have fun.

A week ago on a typical warm fall day, Nick knocked on the door of my house. He asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. We walked and talked about random things until we got to the clinic. We entered his office. I sat in a rolling chair by his desk. He asked me, “Is anything bugging you.” I responded telling him about dream I had. While I was talking, he wrote down what I was saying and asked me questions. Then, he retold the dream to me. As he slowly read the notes, I analyzed my dream. He asked me questions that caused to me think about the root of the dream. When I got up to leave, I felt relieved, thankful, and happy.

Looking back on all of this, Nick has helped me more than most people would expect especially since he is a clinical social work who doesn’t even work in my house. Recently, I found out about a family tragedy. Before I was able to even tell him about what happened, he hunted me down and arranged to take me off campus. Of course, he asked about how I was doing. Through our conversation, he helped me to realize the stages of grief and process my emotions. in a healthy manner. Throughout the past year, Nick’s helpfulness has helped me to slowly find myself. I am becoming a more sincere young man because Nick has helped me to process my emotions.

Dragons' Den: Would You Rather?

I would rather be pretty for the rest of my life that be smart. One reason is because I don't want to become fat, wrinkly and old. I would rather be pretty. Additionally, pretty people have it better. People tend to be nice to pretty face. One last reason is I could make a lot of money. Being pretty, I would have more opportunities in the public area. For example, I could get a modeling job. I could also become an actor more faster than an average looking person. In the future, I hope not to die fat and ugly.

"Two Kinds" Jing-Mei's Shoes Paragraph

If someone was pushing me to become a prodigy piano player, I would feel mad, angry, and volatile. I do not like being forced to do things that are ridiculous. I would react by disagreeing. I would not do any of the work that I was told to do. I would totally sabotage myself by faking an injury. I would pretend that I hit the wall and broke my knuckles. I would bandage up my hands so they would look swollen. The pressure to become a prodigy would harm me because it would not be beneficial to my mental health.

odyssey project

Brain over brawn is not necessarily correct. In many situations, humans are able to use their wits to solve problems. Sometimes, physical strength helps people to succeed. In the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is able to over to overcome the obstacles before him by using cunningness and strength.

Odysseus uses his cunningness and strength to defeat many monsters, like the cyclops. For example, he defeats the cyclops by telling the him a fake name. Then after that Odysseus gets the Cyclops drunk so he can defeat the Cyclops by blinding him with a stake that him and his men made. This shows that obstacles can be overcame with both brain and brawn. This also shows that it is good to use both brains and brawn. Another time would be when Odysseus uses his cunningness and strength to help his country beat the Trojans by making a giant horse, with a hole inside so that they could put in about ten solders. This shows that his wits and the strength of his comrades in arms could help in the take over of Troy. This also shows that not just strength can win a war. Even though several of the gods tried to stop Odysseus on his journey home he was victorious and got home after twenty long years.

Odysseus also encounters another kind of monster, the goddesses. For example when Odysseus was at Calypso’s island, he was manipulated so he would not want to leave the island because she made/let him lay with her in bed. She also offered immortality if he stayed with on her lonely island. This shows that Odysseus weak because he could not overcome his lust for goddesses. This also shows that not even Odysseus the wise could overcome lust for a goddess. One other obstacle that he and his men had to pass was the goddess Circe. Odysseus‘ men arrive at Circe's fortress on her island. She turned all of his men in to pigs because she does not like men. When that happened Odysseus got a plant form the god Helios that would make Circe's powers not work on him. After he got the plant he went to Circe's fortress to get his men back. She gave up admittedly after she noticed the her powers did not work on Odysseus. So she came up with a compromise that she would release his men if he laid in bed with her. This shows that strong and wise in a tight situation like him being blackmailed by Circe. This also that he is a wise and strong man by doing what he did to save his men.

Odysseus finally achieves his goal of going home to Ithica by using his cunningness and strength. In life people go through obstacles just like they did back in the Greek God times. Having both wits and strength go hand in hand with overcoming obstacles.

Biograohical and Historical Approach Assessment Project

Research Paper Final Draft

Childhood neglect affects teenagers all around the world. Abandonment is one of the number one leading things that affects teenagers. Abandonment, neglect, and abuse are most of the reasons why children show the other side of themselves, “The Shadow.” Childhood neglect affects teenagers morals because the child does not have anyone to show them right from wrong and if someone else then there parents try to teach them the important thing in life and right from wrong, because of this they tend to resent the adult that is trying to help. The lack of values instilled in the abandoned teenager is due to neglect.

The child with no family, the one who was abandoned is different from every one else because they did not get the proper care, love ,and guidance. They will most likely never learn family values or what right from wrong is. Most of the time the out come is bad, like joining a gang, getting involved in criminal activities, or using drugs as a crutch to get away from the feeling that they have no one. The child can get so depressed, they go so far that they try to kill themselves.

The child that is becoming a young adult tends to resent adults and authority figures. They often think they can do every thing by themselves. They become defiant. The young adult will not want do anything that an adult tells them to do, and if they do, they do not do it all the way throw. They do that because it makes them feel like they have power and because they try to ruin any relationship before it has any chance. Subconsciously the young adult will resent the adult even if they do not mean to ruin the relationship.

The young adult most likely will become aggressive and defiant towards authority like figures. Like step parents, cops, and any other person that has some kind of authority. They can get so aggressive that they get to the point that they are harming themselves and others. The child tends to have a disorder called O.D.D “Oppositional Defiant Disorder “, they will not want to do a thing that the adult tells them to do, or they will do the exact opposite then what the adult wants.Sometimes when they are in there young adult years, they tend to get into criminal activities or join a gang because they do not have anyone. They do this because they want to have some sort of family like connection.

Childhood neglect affects teenagers morals because the child does not have anyone to show them right from wrong. They tend to resent the adult that is trying to help because they do not want to get hurt. Also because of the lack of values instilled in them they tend to become aggressive, defiant and become involved in criminal activities. When all of this is added up it is too much for the person to handle. The shadow comes out of the person. the shadow is fueled by the pain and ache from when they were a child. It is the side of the person that dose not show any remorse for what he or she dose. This is an out come of abandonment.
